Description

The Oslob Whale Sharks Encounter in Cebu, Philippines, offers a rare opportunity to observe and swim with the world’s largest fish, the gentle whale sharks (“butanding”). This globally renowned attraction takes place off the coast of Tan-awan, Oslob, where local fishermen have developed a sustainable interaction program since 2011. Visitors can witness these majestic creatures up close in their natural habitat, guided by local experts who emphasize responsible tourism and marine conservation.

The crystal-clear waters of Oslob provide excellent visibility, allowing guests to marvel at the whale sharks’ distinctive patterns and immense size, some reaching up to 12 meters in length. The encounter is strictly regulated, with guidelines to ensure the safety of both visitors and the whale sharks, such as maintaining a respectful distance and prohibiting touching. Another must-visit attraction is Tumalog Falls, a majestic cascade located a short drive from the whale shark interaction site. The falls feature thin, curtain-like streams of water gently flowing over moss-covered rocks, creating a serene, dreamy landscape. The cool, refreshing pool at the base of the falls invites visitors for a relaxing dip after a day of adventure. The Oslob Whale Sharks Encounter, along with the breathtaking and the tranquil Tumalog Falls, highlight Cebu’s natural beauty and commitment to eco-tourism, offering an unforgettable experience that blends adventure, relaxation, and environmental appreciation.

    Frequently Asked Questions
You can book the tour online by selecting your date, number of guests, and pick-up location, then completing the checkout process. After booking, you will receive a confirmation with instructions for your scheduled activity.
Yes. You can complete your reservation first and update your hotel or pick-up location later before the tour date. Please make sure your hotel is located in Oslob. We do not offer pick-up services yet outside our local area.
Our whale shark tour operates on a walk-in basis, as reservations are not guaranteed. Most of our whale sharks tour pick-up schedules start very early in the morning, between 4:00 AM and 7:30 AM. The actual activity begins around 6:00 AM, but tourists have already lined up before that time. Select your preferred tour schedule, but remember that it’s always advisable to choose the earliest available option.
Simple answer: to beat the crowds and to have a high chance of seeing the whale sharks. By around 4:00 AM, crowds can reach close to 500 people and up to 1000 people by 6:00 AM. Closures due to bad weather and no sightings have also been experienced so that's why it is better to be early.
Not at all. Non-swimmers can still participate because life jackets are provided, and guests may also choose boat viewing instead of swimming. The activity is beginner-friendly and suitable for most travelers. Guides and boatmen are present to assist guests throughout the experience.
Yes. Whale sharks are gentle filter feeders that eat plankton and small fish. Safety briefings and trained guides ensure the activity follows strict rules.
Yes — heavy rain alone doesn’t always cancel activities, but if there’s a storm, strong winds, or unsafe sea conditions, operations can be suspended. Operations are regulated and managed by the Oslob Tourism Office and the Philippine Coast Guard. Activity closure announcements due to weather, if any, are usually released at 5:00 a.m by the Philippine Coast Guard.
For safety reasons, we only permit children aged 3 and above to join. All guests must be declared and recorded. Additionally, all guests must be in good health and physically fit to participate.
All participants will be transported using the agency’s transport vehicles. Due to limited parking in the activity area and to ensure proper coordination, we disallow guests from bringing their cars.
Meals or snacks are not included, but there are shops available and open for your personal expense.
Choose the earliest available time to ensure the highest chance of seeing the whale sharks. As long as there are no changes to the boat schedule and you finish the tour before 9:00 a.m., there is still time to prepare. Because you have a trip to catch, you should not join any other activities other than the whale sharks tour. Recommended Oslob Whale Sharks tour schedules: • 2:00 a.m. • 2:30 a.m. • 3:00 a.m. • 4:00 a.m.
Yes. Filipinos, and Filipino senior citizen or PWD discounts for our services are accommodated only through direct booking at our physical office. (Government-issued discount programs) Discounts are not available through online bookings or our website.

The standard end time for the activities will be before 12:00 PM. However, the tour and activity timeline can be adjusted based on the group’s decision. Your tour guide will consult the group and make the necessary adjustments or changes to the schedule. For instance: The group might decide to start the next tour early. Estimate Timeline (including waiting & travel time): Whale Sharks = 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM Tumalog Falls = 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM~ Notes: -It’s crucial for the group to follow any changes to ensure the smooth organization of the tour. -Breakfast and lunch are not included in the tour.
If a guest decides not to continue the rest of the tour for any reason, they can wait for the next available opportunity where their safety and security are not compromised. Since the activity involves sharing with others, the guest must rely on the tour guide/facilitator’s decision and availability of a vehicle. However, if safety is at risk, the guest may not be permitted to leave or end the tour early. Instead, they must wait for the group to complete the tour. Note: Note: Unused tours, inclusions, and/or services will not be reimbursed or refunded. They will be considered forfeited or consumed.
